How did it all start?

"How did you actually get into dealing with art?"

I get asked this question often. "Good question," I usually answer.

Because: It is not that easy to say this in general terms.

In any case, even as a child I liked to go to flea markets. I can also remember how, when I was a child, I often climbed onto the containers behind DIY stores on Sundays to see which supposed “treasures” were being disposed of.

In addition, my father inherited quite a lot of old furniture from a lady he cared for when he was young. These were in our apartment and I practically grew up surrounded by such great pieces.

But my personal spark for deciding to trade in art objects was when I moved into my first apartment of my own.

I went to a thrift store with my father to buy a dining table. When we found it and wanted to pay, I saw an abstract painting at the checkout. When I had been staring at that painting for quite some time, I heard the cashier's voice say to me, "Nice piece, isn't it? €10, then you can take it with you!”

No sooner said than done and I had the picture under my arm.

At home I then started to deal with the artist (a Latvian) and the technology behind it. I also immediately noticed the prices at which the painter's works are offered, which seemed completely utopian to me at the price I had paid.

"Very well," I thought to myself. "I'm young and I need the money," and listed the painting for sale on eBay.

After a few days of silence, the eBay app actually popped up one evening and I had to rub my eyes first: A prospective lady from Latvia made me an unbelievably good offer for the painting. She had been looking for a possible painting for a very long time and wanted it necessarily have.

I jumped at it immediately and was incredibly happy to have made such a good deal. The reaction of the buyer, who had been looking for something comparable for a very long time, triggered something in me that I still can't let go of today.

So it happened to me and since then I've been obsessed with "raising" more treasures and constantly educating myself in order to continue this discovered business area for as long as I'm allowed to!
